February 2009 saw an extraordinary two week heat wave develop over Eastern Australia placing it amongst the most severe of the past century. During this period - which included Black Saturday - Victoria's emergency services were stretched to the limit. The Australian Red Cross supports humanitarian relief efforts around the globe in some of the most remote and in many cases disaster effected areas. The Australian Red Cross provides professionals from a variety of backgrounds to work on international programs of the Red Cross on overseas aassignments across more than 20 countries. Here the Red Cross discusses risk management considerations and planning when preparing to send staff to volatile and dangerous postings overseas. |
